Polyether polyols are key components used in the production of polyurethanes.
Polyether-based polyurethanes exhibit enhanced hydrolytic stability and excellent resistance to weak acids and bases compared to polyester-based polyurethanes.
Polyether polyurethane can be divided into soft foam polyether, rigid foam polyether, and elastomer with polyether according to the performance of polyether products.
However, polyether-based polyurethanes are more susceptible to UV radiation and provide poor resistance to oils and fuels compared to polyester-based polyurethanes.
Polyether Polyols are made by reacting organic oxide and glycol.
The main organic oxide utilized are Ethylene Oxide, Propylene Oxide, Butylene Oxide, and Epichlorohydrin.
The main glycols utilized are Ethylene Glycol, Propylene Glycol, Water, Glycerine, Sorbitol, Sucrose, and THME.
Polyols contain reactive hydroxyl (OH) groups which react with isocyanate (NCO) groups on isocyanates to form polyurethanes.
There are many kinds of polyether polyols for polyurethane. PU materials with different performances can be obtained with the reaction between different initiators and olefin polymerization.
By modifying the PU raw materials or changing the catalyst, polyether performance can be modified. These initiators include diethyl alcohol, ternary alcohol, tetrahydrofuran, aromatic polyether polyols, etc.
Storage
Dimethylformamide has practically no corrosive effect on ordinary metals with the exception of copper and its alloys.
Dimethylformamide may be stored in stainless steel or aluminum tanks.
Seals should preferably be made of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), polyethylene, or high-density polypropylene.
As dimethylformamide is very easily absorbed through the skin, it is advisable for personnel to wear masks and polyethylene gloves. Independent breathing apparatus should be worn inside tanks that have contained dimethylformamide.
People susceptible to skin disease or liver and stomach disorders should not be exposed to dimethylformamide.
In the event of accidental spillage of a small amount of the substance, it may be diluted with water and removed without any danger to purification plants.
If the amount spilled is large, the product should be recovered by pumping and then destroyed by incineration or by absorption in a suitable substance for subsequent removal in compliance with current legislation.
